Belize

Visitors from the United States, Canada, and Schengen region countries do not need a tourist visa to stay in Belize more than 30 days1. Visitors from the U.S. can stay in Belize for up to 180 days without a visa.

Long Stay Permit

The long stay permit allows holders to stay in Belize for up to six months2.

The long stay permit does not allow employment in Belize and cannot be extended.

Requirements include:

  • citizen of European Union, United Kingdom, USA, or Canada
  • minimum annual income of $75,000 for individuals and $100,000 with dependents 
  • Proof of employment or business registration and tax return for self-employed
  • Proof of travel health insurance, police records, notarized banking reference, certified copy of the applicant's passport bio-data page
Temporary Residence

Temporary residence can be obtained for one year with investments in Belize of at least BZ$500,000.00 ($248,846.35)3.  Proof of investment may include title of real estate ownership, business or bank statements, or a company registration certificate4.

Temporary residence can be renewed. 

Permanent Residence

Permanent residence is an option for those who have lived in Belize for at least one year and have not left the country for more than 14 days3.

Requirements include:
  • Proof of financial means such as employment contract, self employment, pension, bank account statements5
  • medical certificate and tests
  • Criminal record including proof applicant has not been convicted of a crime punishable with at least 12 months of imprisonment 
Citizenship

Permanent residents for at least five years who have not left Belize for over thirty consecutive days or three months in a twelve month period are eligible for citizenship6.

Spouses of a Belizean national for over one year are also eligible for citizenship.

Applicants will need to provide two Belizean references who have known them for at least five years7.

Children or grandchildren of a Belizean citizen may also be eligible for citizenship.
