Digital Nomad Visa

The digital nomad visa allows remote workers to live in Spain for up to 1 year2

Self-employed applicants can also work for a Spanish company for up to 20% of their total professional activities

All applicants must have at least a bachelor's degree or 3 years of work experience in their current industry

Before applying for a Digital Nomad Visa, applicants must apply for a Foreigner Identity Number

Candidates must be able to prove they have worked for their foreign employer for at least 3 months prior to their application

Applicants must prove they have 200% of the Spanish minimum wage (2.268€)3

Temporary Residence

Allows successful applicants to live in Spain for up to 5 years4

Categories include:

  • Non-lucrative temporary residence allows foreigners to live in Spain for up to 1 year and can be renewed5
    • Requirements:
      • Applicants cannot do any remunerative work (including online)
      • Proof of funds is required to live in Spain without working (28.800€ for an individual)
      • Health insurance
  • Temporary residence with a work permit exemption permits highly skilled professionals to live in Spain while working
    • Potential candidates may include scientists, professors, media, and artists
    • The initial visa is for 1 year, extendable by 2 years twice6
Permanent Residence

Grants the right to live and work in Spain indefinitely7

Those eligible include:
  • Legal residents of Spain for 5 years who have not left for more than 6 months at a time
  • EU Blue Card holders who have lived the 2 years leading up to their application in Spain and at least 3 more years in another EU member state8
  • Retirees who receive a pension 
Citizenship

Spanish nationality by residence is an option for those who have resided legally in Spain for at least 10 continuous years9

Spaniards of origin, such as children of a Spanish parent, also qualify for Spanish citizenship10
